New In: Books

People usually say that we have no time for fun in med school, which I personally don't agree with. I am not a big reader, but I do like to read to get my mind off school a few minutes a day. I am definitely not finishing a book after book, but I am slowly getting myself through The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee currently. It is a big book, but oh my goodness, it is extremely well written, and once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. Regardless, I added a few more books to my nightstand the other day.

Do No Harm by Henry Marsh

We are reading When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi for neurosurgery club. Do No Harm By Henry Marsh was one of the books that was the choice. I figured I would read it. I am interested in neurosurgery, so maybe this will give me more insight into the field.

The House of God by Samuel Shem

The House of God by Samuel Shem is known to be one of the must read books for anyone in medicine. From what I heard, it is a fictional novel about medical interns at a hospital. Although it is a fiction, it is supposed to be pretty close to life. I guess we will find out.

Essentialism Greg McKeown

I was reading Laura Lacquer's instagram or blog post recently. She recommended Essentialism by Greg McKeown book on learning how to say no to things that are not important to you. Closer I get towards end of med school, more I realize that I need to prioritize things important in my life more than anything. I figured I would give this one a shot.
